Proposed Mechanism for Further Methoxylation

• Si is electron deficient and therefore susceptible to nucleophilic attack by methanol.

• The Si-Si backbond is broken by H insertion, and the original Si is terminated by

multiple methoxy groups.

• This multiple methoxylation may also occur on the Si(100) surface.
